Bhadar River

About:

The Bhadar River is one of the important rivers in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, India. It flows through the arid lands of the region, providing water for irrigation, agriculture, and local communities. Originating from the Mandav Hills, the river traverses through several districts and finally empties into the Arabian Sea. Vansda National Park:
Vansda National Park attracts a lot of tourists. It was originally a private forest of the Maharaja of Vansda. It covers an area of 24 sq km and has tigers, leopards, python, four-horned antelope, pangolin, rusty-spotted cats and giant squirrels. The permission from the Chief Wildlife Warden of Gandhinagar or DFO, Ahwa prior to the visit to the park.The Purna Sanctuary is a part of the dense moist deciduous forests in the Western Ghats of Gujarat. It covers an area of 160 sq. km. And is situated at Mahal, which is 60 km north of Dangs. Bamboo lined pathways are provided for the trekkers. Prior permission is needed to visit this park.

By Air: The nearest airport is Rajkot Airport (about 45 km from the Bhadar Dam) and Porbandar Airport if approaching from the western side.
By Train: The nearest railway stations are Rajkot, Gondal, and Jetpur, all of which have good connectivity to major cities in Gujarat.
Road Transport:Saputara is well connected with the other important destinations of Gujarat and Maharashtra through the State transport and private buses and the nearby railheads

Purna Sanctuary:
This region is crossed by Purna and Gira rivers, the hilly region is set by Bamboo pathway for the support to the trekkers, this 160 sq.km sanctuary is home to wild bulls, elephants, sloth bears, and rhinoceros. The best seasons are November to March.

Ashokan Edicts
Ashokan Rock edicts are situated at Lat. 210 31 N; Long 700 28 E. The Rock edicts of Emperor Ashokan were engraved on a granite boulder on the slope of Girinagara or Urjayata Hill. On the eastern face of it was engraved 14 Rock edicts by Ashoka and later epigraphs of Mahakshatrapa Rudradaman I and Skandagupta were also recorded on it, the Rock edict was first reported by James Todd in 1822. Junagadh Zoo is famous around the world for the Asiatic Lions it boasts of. The zoo is also known as Sakkarbaug Zoological Garden. A trip to Junagadh would remain incomplete without a visit to the Sakkarbaug Zoological Garden.The Junagadh Zoo was built in 1863 by the then Nawab. Incidentally, the zoo is the oldest one in Gujarat. He had set up this zoo in order to save the Asiatic Lion from extinction.
