Chorwad Beach is a serene coastal destination located on the Arabian Sea in Gujarat, India. Known for its calm waters and beautiful landscape, it is famous for the Chorwad Palace, once the royal summer retreat of the Nawab of Junagadh. Chorwad is home to a palace which was constructed by Nawab Saheb Mohabbat Khan, the regional governor of his times. He was a man of fervor and indulged in activities like his dog's bizarre weddings, royal banquets and other related royal processions for his own enjoyment. The memories of the yester years still haunt the Palace. However, it has now been transformed into an attractive resort. Another such fascinating place here is the Daria Mahal Palace, an architectural gem of the yore. |

Built in the 1930s, the spacious Chorwad Palace with its impressive façade, elegant interiors, projecting porticos and balconies and large arched windows reflects an interesting blend of Italian, Muslim and colonial influences. The ambience and ethos of a royal bygone era have been recreated in the Palace. Somnath Forts: Veraval, at a distance of just about 7 km from Somnath is its nearest rail head. Visitors enter Somnath through the Junagadh Gate in Veraval. Junagadh Gate is considered to be one of the most important of the Forts and Monuments in Somnath. This triple gate is very old, its ancientness is evident from the fact that it was through this gate that Mahmud of Ghazni entered when he wanted to rout the Somnath Temple. The carvings on the gate are sure to impress any onlooker.

Ashokan Rock edicts are situated at Lat. 210 31 N; Long 700 28 E. The Rock edicts of Emperor Ashokan were engraved on a granite boulder on the slope of Girinagara or Urjayata Hill. On the eastern face of it was engraved 14 Rock edicts by Ashoka and later epigraphs of Mahakshatrapa Rudradaman I and Skandagupta were also recorded on it, the Rock edict was first reported by James Todd in 1822. Incidentally, the zoo is the oldest one in Gujarat. He had set up this zoo in order to save the Asiatic Lion from extinction.
