Capital Complex is heart of the Gandhinagar,in Sector 10, is the well-laid-out complex of buildings housing the legislature and government offices.Vithalbhai Patel Bhavan,a magnificent domed building,stands majestically on a high podium in the centre of a circular lake and houses the Vidhan Sabha and the legislature offices. Flanking it,and linked by hanging corridors, are two modern multi-storeyed buildings. Sardar Bhavan, which is to house the various departments of the State Secretariat, and Narmada Bhavan, where the offices of all the heads of departments are situated. The Secretariat along with the offices of the heads of various departments are now located in a complex of three-storeyed buildings constructed to house the district offices, in sector 9.
A domed building on a podium in the middle of the lake inside, the campus is known as the Vithalbhai Patel Bhavan which houses the Vidhan Sabha and the legislature office. On the two sides of the Vithalbhai Patel Bhavan are other two buildings which are built magnificently. The two buildings on the either side of the domed building are linked by hanging corridors. Sardar Bhavan and Narmada Bhavan are the name of the two buildings. The Sardar Bhavan houses the several departments of State Secretariat are placed in the Sardar Bhavan and Narmada Bhavan houses the offices of the Head of the Departments. The complex is known for its magnificent buildings. Located in the heart of the city in Sector 10, the Capital Complex comprises buildings like the Legislature and government offices. The Vithalbhai Patel Bhavan is a beautiful dome-shaped building that sits pretty on a high podium right in the center of a circular lake and houses the legislature offices and the Vidhan Sabha. |

In 1960, when the old Mumbai State was bifurcated into the present States of Maharashtra and Gujarat, Mumbai city fell to the share of Maharastra. It was then decided to build and entirely new capital for Gujarat. Gandhinagar, Gujarat's new capital city, rises on the west bank of the Sabarmati river, about 32 kms. north east of Ahmedabad, the commercial and cultural heart of Gujarat. Gandhinagar presents the spacious, well-organized look of an architecturally integrated city. |

Akshardham Temple: The Akshardam temple is one of the famous temple in Gandhinagar. This temple belongs to the wealthy Hindu Swaminarayan Group, the richest sect in the world. This temple was built by nearly 1000 artisans. It is an elaborately carved building constructed out of 6000 tonnes of pink sandstone with beautiful carvings and surrounded by the manicured lawns, perfect trees and admirable fountains. In September 2002, this temple was attacked by the terrorists.
The Swaminarayan Temple at Gandhinagar in Gujarat in India is dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan. The temple is a beautiful edifice made out of pink stone. The temple is fully made up of stone. The Swaminarayan temple was opened to the public in the year 1992 and thousands of tourists flock in everyday to visit the temple. In the central hall of the temple, the idol of Lord Swaminarayan is set. The idol is fully covered with a gold leaf. The central hall also has idols of the successors of Lord Swaminarayan. These idols are marble idol and add beauty to the hall ambience. The temple looks grand with 100 pillars which are beautifully sculptured, the balconies are beautifully decorated, there is a podium and seventeen domes. Sarkhej: Sarkhej is situated about 8 kms. southwest of the city centre and a suburb of Ahmedabad. Sarkhej was once a country retreat of the Muslim rulers. It is known for its Rauza, the fine architectural complex of mosques, palaces, pavilions and tombs, all grouped around a stepped tank. The style shows distinct Hindu influence. By the entrance is the tomb of Sultan Mahmud Begadaa, with geometric jalis casting patterns of light on the floor. Shaikh Ahmed Khattu lived at Sarkhej and built this mosque with a great open space in front of the prayer hall, surrounded by the domes. The Dutch established an indigo factory nearby. Vishala: Vishala is situated about 5 kms. from Ahmedabad. It is purposefully built showpiece of a collection of huts along clay paths which capture the spirit of a traditional Gujarati village. It began as an excellent vegetarian restaurant in 1978 but has grown since to include a museum, live performances of music, dance and puppet shows as well as craftsman at work and an excellent shop. Pots, handloom linens, hand crafted shoes, clothes, brassware or embroidery from Vishala. Here you can sit cross-legged at low tables, eat on green leaves and drink from clay tumblers. The portions are generous and there is a large variety of traditional dishes, breads, chutneys, ending with an Indian sweet and nutty ice-cream.

The Gandhi Ashram Ahmedabad is situated on the banks of the Sabarmati River. It used to the nerve center for the Indian Freedom movement.
