Kadana dam

About:

Kadana Dam is a magnificent multipurpose dam located on the Mahi River in the Mahisagar district of Gujarat, India. It serves as a vital source for irrigation, hydroelectric power generation, and flood control. Engineering geological investigations mainly deal with the properties such as bulk density, porosity, water absorption, uniaxial compressive strength, static modulus of elasticity, Poisson's ratio, ultrasonic wave velocity and dynamic modulus of elasticity.The later part of the thesis describes the model studies carried out for the foundation rock composites and the analysis of the investigations with reference to the uniaxial compressive strength and static modulus of elasticity of the composites.

History:

Kadana Dam was constructed in the early 1970s and was completed in 1989. It was built to cater to the water and electricity needs of the surrounding regions and to manage the flood situation in the area. The dam's construction has significantly contributed to the agricultural development and power generation in Gujarat.

Pavagadh hills:
Pavagadh hills located at Halol Taluka, few miles away from Godhra is a famous tourist attraction. Also known as Pavakgadh or 'fire hill' in old inscription, Pavagadh is well-known as the strongest hill fortress of ancient Gujarat. Kalika Mata Temple devoted to Goddess Kali is situated at the peak of the hill. Belonging to 10th-11th century, it is one of the most sacred center of Hindu pilgrimage. The ancient fort of Champaner, which was the medieval capital of Gujarat and seat of Chavda Kingdom is at the foot of the hill.

Jambuhoda Wildlife Sanctuary
Located in the Panchmahal district of Central Gujarat and declared as a sanctuary in May 1990, Jambughoda Wildlife Sanctuary is home for a variety of animals and plants.
